DMS Campus Improvements – Autumn 2017

Thank you to the our Maintenance Team and Roof Contractor for all of our new Campus Improvements – both added beauty & function. We are excited to announce that our grade 1 & 2 building has a new metal roof! We have also added two new storage sheds and expanded our irrigation to the lower play yard for new grass growth.

Community Choir – Starting Oct 19

Do you long for community? Do you long to create musical and social harmony? Well, community singing does that and more. Community singing is not meant for the “gifted” or the “talented”. It is there for everyone, regardless of musical ability or accomplishment, because the urge to sing is a fundamental impulse in every person to express the inexpressible! It’s about joy, laughter, shedding a tear or two because yes, that beautiful sound IS coming from everyone joining their voices together! It’s about letting go and letting out! It’s about getting a weekly sound bath and a musical massage! It doesn’t take as much energy as it gives! It’s about unexpected friendships and yes, harmony like we never thought harmony could be!

Community Singing is not limited to teachers, staff and parents or DMS. Anyone is welcome. Feel free to bring a friend or a teenager 16 and older.

We will be meeting 8 times during the fall to sing songs that everyone can learn quickly: songs about nature, about the season, the environment, about being human together! During the last two meetings we will sing holiday music so that we may go into the winter break with songs in our hearts.

The schedule:

We will meet in the Eurythmy room from 7 – 8:30 p.m. on the following 8 evenings:

Thursdays: October 19th and 26th
Tuesdays: November 7th, 14th, 21st, 28th & December 5th and 12th

Fee: a suggested sliding scale from $5-$10 per session. DMS teachers and staff $5. No one should be left out. If payment is not possible please come anyway.

Teri DeSario is a singer, writer and teacher. She holds an MFA in Vocal Performance from the California Institute of the Arts. She is a grammy nominated recording artist, a singer, songwriter, and has taught voice and performance in colleges and later in Anthroposophical Conservatories and Eurythmy schools in Hamburg, Germany as well as in schools and trainings in Arizona and Florida. She has led numerous choirs: from biodynamic farmers to seamen, from folk to jazz, classical to gospel. Her encounter with Rudolf Steiner and the Christian Community transformed her approach to music and her creative/spiritual purpose. She delights most of all in working with others, in groups and individually, to discover and express their individuality and authenticity through singing. Currently she is a music consultant for Desert Marigold School, does concerts, teaches voice privately, and is the lyricist for a musical based on The Magic Flute. Alliance for Public Waldorf Education – Response to Las Vegas

Alliance President Responds to Las Vegas

Please follow this link to Alliance President, Liz Beaven’s thoughtful letter about what we can do as a community in response to the social distress created by the recent shootings in Las Vegas. I spoke with the 12th grade class about it on Monday morning. It is all too easy to fall into a sense of hopelessness when such senseless violence occurs. It is not wrong to be grateful that it has not happened here, but we can send strengthening thoughts or prayers to those that have been directly touched by that horrific event.

Executive Director

Volunteer in the Garden

Help Bobi Catch Up with our Runaway Weeds. All the rain has helped our garden grow–only it has helped the weeds even more! If you have even an extra half-hour in the morning or, for those who really like to sweat, come early and pull weeds before pick-up. Help is also needed Wednesday evenings, since it is still too hot to schedule the classes for Wednesday garden nights! Come, enjoy and help build community.
