Dear DMS Community,

Governor Doug Ducey and Superintendent Kathy Hoffman announced a statewide closure of Arizona schools from March 16 through March 27.  They are working with education leaders and public health offices to reassess the need for school closures and will provide additional guidance through March 27.

In a letter to Arizona families, educators and community leaders, Governor Ducey said he is consulting with district and legislative partners to determine the extent of any potential makeup days. It is currently unknown as to whether the school year will be extended and as information develops we will update the community.  Further, in regards to statewide AZMerit testing, Governor Ducey and Superintendent Hoffman are working with federal offices in the event the state needs to secure a waiver.   Here is a link to the letter from Governor Ducey and Superintendent Hoffman.

We understand many parents have questions about childcare options.  It is the recommendation of public health officials that children who are not at school remain at home to the greatest extent possible.  For families for whom that is not an option, state officials are working with partners in the non-profit, faith-based and education communities to make available childcare options to families who need it.

We will continue to update our community with any changes.
