It takes a village!
Festivals, fairs, gardens, animals, peaceful grounds and a commitment to Public Waldorf education and sustainability all help make DMS a vibrant community. These things can only be maintained if everyone takes responsibility for supporting what benefits us all. Our school would not be in existence without the tremendous amount of volunteer hours contributed by parents on a monthly basis. As a charter School, we receive the same education funds as a traditional district public school. However, unlike a traditional public school, we must also pay for our school building out of these funds. The limited public funds just do not cover the “extras” included in our curriculum. If not for parent volunteer hours and donations, we would not be able to keep our renowned educational programs.
Volunteer Hours Goal
We have set a goal of 25 hours per caregiver per school year. Hours can be contributed by any family member or friends of family. Children are more than welcome to get involved! We are hoping this creates more viable options for all of our amazing DMS families to help participate in the volunteering needs of the school. Volunteer service is optional.
If you have any questions about finding volunteer opportunities, an idea of how you can contribute beyond what is listed or know of an opportunity not posted, please contact DMS Volunteer Coordinator, Laura Heaney HERE
Logging & Tracking your Hours
All volunteer opportunities will be posted to and hours logged on ParentSquare. Please SEE HERE if you do not have a ParentSquare account
Fingerprint Clearance Cards
All volunteers who will be on campus during the school day or who will be transporting children on field trips and to other school sponsored events, must have a valid AZ Fingerprint Clearance Card.
Field Trip Drivers
As a sign of our appreciation we’ll acknowledge those who reach the target 25 hours goal at the end of the year. Last year a Tuft & Needle mattress was given in a volunteer raffle. Stay tuned for this year’s raffle prize!
We know that in the past many families have gone above and beyond the hours required with actions of service that are an incredible asset to our school. The new tracking system will help us easily identify those efforts. Beyond that, having volunteers document their time will allow us to plan and prepare for upcoming projects and major school-wide efforts in the future.
The Desert Marigold Faculty and Staff thank you and anyone who volunteers for their time, talent, and resources. It takes a village, and the more we do, the better our children thrive!
