What is Open Enrollment?
Open Enrollment is the process by which we enroll students new to the charter Public Waldorf K-12th classes in our school for the next school year.
Who has to participate?
Parents wanting to move their child from our private program into a charter class. Parents who have no children currently enrolled at DMS.
Do I need to go through Open enrollment for a private early childhood space?
Enrollment for the following year begins during the open enrollment period. Places in the private early childhood program are on a “first-come, first-served” basis. Classes are continually enrolling as spaces become available.
When is Open Enrollment?
The open enrollment period for charter applications is from the beginning of November until midnight on December 31st. An electronic lottery for all completed applications is held on the 2nd Friday of February.
What if I complete my child’s application process after December 31st?
Your child’s name will be added to the waiting list after all of those who participated in Open Enrollment. You will not be part of the lottery.
When do siblings apply?
Applications for siblings for places in the following year must also be completed by December 31st. This includes applicants for Kindergarten and 1st Grade.
Do I need to be present at the lottery?
No. Families will be able to check their position on the waiting lists through their family’s online application portal.
How are the positions on the waiting list determined?
The students in the lottery are placed on the list following the priorities set by Arizona law. New applicants are given priority after
- returning students
- applicants with siblings already at DMS and
- applicants carried forward from the prior year’s waiting list.
When do continuing students re-enroll?
Emails are sent to the families in March with instructions for online re-enrollment.
When will I likely know if my child has a place?
Spaces are offered, as they become available, to applicants in their order on the waiting list. In March, the awarding of spaces begins and continue through the summer. Some additional spaces become available right at the start of term when the plans of families of enrolled students unexpectedly change.
How old does a child have to be to apply for the charter kindergarten?
Children must be 5 years old by September 1st. We make no exceptions to this rule.
