Special Education Teacher
Description
We are looking for a Special Education teacher for the 2023/24 school year.
Essential Job Functions
A Special Education Teacher will work to create a flexible program favorable to learning and personal growth for the student in the least restrictive environment.
Provide direct instruction based on child’s IEP and the Arizona state standards
Conduct appropriate academic evaluations and assessments; develop, implement and monitor appropriate academic/behavioral individual education plans (IEPs)
Confer and consult with class teachers regarding student needs, interventions, accommodations and student progress.
Maintain accurate records for documentation of student progress and for compliance with federal and state guidelines and prepare student progress reports in a timely manner.
Participate in the MET process
Attend, plan, conduct, and/or participate in all necessary training activities and department meetings.
Provide on-going consultation and support to teachers and teams in the development, design, and implementation of plans for students experiencing difficulties.
Communicate with parents/guardians through conferences and other means (verbal and written) to discuss student’s progress.
May be required to participate in student’s meetings that may occur beyond the staff’s work assignment schedule.
Follow state law and district policy with cases involving child abuse and neglect.
Demonstrate willingness to be flexible and creative to meet individual student needs.
Consult with staff members regarding interventions and accommodations for students.
Maintain professional competence through in-service professional development activities provided by DMS and/or self-selected professional growth activities.
Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Bachelor’s Degree in Special Education or related area
Master’s Degree in Special Education (preferred)
Arizona Special Education Cross Categorical Teacher certification, or Arizona Special Education Teacher certification with ID/MR special area
Knowledge of special education laws, procedures, practices, materials, equipment and compliance standards required to provide appropriate learning experiences for special education students. Good knowledge of the nature and effects of the impairment(s) in all areas of disability.
Ability to assess needs, develop and implement the IEP, evaluate outcomes.
Ability to coordinate activities with related and specialist staff
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with peers, parents and the community; excellent human relations skills; skill in both oral and written communication; ability to work in multicultural environment with diverse population of students, staff and parents
Maintain current NCI, First Aid, and CPR certifications
Computer proficiency in school designated computer hardware and software, including Google Docs, MET and IEP software programs and other relevant software.
AZ DPS Level One Fingerprint Clearance Card required
Willingness to incorporate Waldorf principles of child development into teaching.
